I am going to show you how to write content that will get you a top keyword ranking.
From this you will understand how to write content to get a top search engine ranking for any keyword.
The process is simple.
After you have found a highly searched for keyword in your niche you can do the following:
- Go to your preferred search engine (enter your keyword)
- Take note of the top ranking site META DATA
- Then analyse the content as shown below
After you have completed these steps, you will be more confident of achieving a top ranking for your keyword.
I am going to show how and why the top sites are ranking top for random keywords.
From this you can determine how to write top ranking content yourself.
Table of Contents
How Analyse The Top Ranking Sites
I will show you how to analyse the content on the top ranking sites for your keyword(s).
This way you can be 100% certain you can match and better it.
Analyse The META DATA
I will analyse the META data for a random keyword, you can do the same thing for your keyword.
Keyword: search engine optimization
Search Volume (29th August 2019): 135,000
SEO Keyword Competitive Score: 65
As you can see, this is a very competitive keyword with a very high monthly search volume.
To analyse the META DATA head on over to your favourite search engine and enter your keyword.
As you can see, the top ranking site for the keyword “search engine optimization” has the keyword in the META Title TAG.
Although it does not have the exact full keyword in the URL and Description TAG it does have the acronym. Search engines understand this and consider it to be the keyword.
It is important to make sure you have your keyword in the Title Tag, URL and Description TAG.
Analyse The Top Ranking Site’s Content
Next you need to take a look at the content to discover why this content is so good to be in the top spot.
Click on the top ranking site URL and open up the web page.
Keyword Count and Placement
We need to know some important details about the content.
First of all, we need to know where the keyword is being used within the content.
To do this hold Ctrl + F (Windows) or ⌘ Command + F (Mac) on your keyboard.
In the box that pop’s up enter your keyword.
This will highlight how often and where the keyword appears on the top ranking website, as shown above.
We need to note down where and how often the keyword appears on the web page.
The top ranking site shows the keyword 3 times within the content.
The keyword appears in the first paragraph, the third paragraph and towards the bottom of the content.
If I was going to target this keyword, I would do the same.
Word Count
You also need to know the word count, just a rough estimate is enough here.
You can use the website page word counter at wordcounter.net.
Enter the web URL for the top ranking site for your keyword and hit the “Count Words” button.
As you can see, the top ranking site for the keyword “search engine optimization” has 1267 words on the page.
Calculate Keyword Density
Now we can calculate the keyword density.
To calculate keyword density do the following:
You have to divide the number of times the keyword features in the content by the number of words, to finish off times it by one hundred.
So for my selected example as shown above the keyword density is:
3 (number of keywords) ÷ 1267 (word count) x 100 (percentage) = 0.23%
This gives the top ranking website a 0.23% keyword density.
Analyse Heading TAG’s (H1 to H6)
Go back to the web URL of the top ranking site for your selected keyword.
Now we need to do another keyboard short cut to analyse the Heading TAGs.
Hold Command + Shift + C (on a Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + C (on Windows).
Then you will see this:
You can hover your mouse over the web page headings to discover which heading tag’s they fall into (H1 to H6).
You will see the code to the right of your screen, you are looking for H1 to H2 with the keyword in between.
Does the web page of the top ranking site for your keyword have the exact keyword in any heading TAGs?
The top ranking site for my example keyword “search engine optimization” shows the following:
- Keyword in one H1 TAG
- Keyword in two H2 TAG’s
Analyse Image ALT TAG’s
Next you can use the same method to analyse the image ALT TAGs.
It’s the same process, simply hover your mouse over an image within the content to analyse the ALT TAG’s.
In the code (highlighted red) you can see the image ALT TAG.
Do they have the exact keyword in an IMAGE ALT TAG?
If so, how many times does the keyword appear in an ALT TAG?
For my example keyword they use the keyword in one image ALT TAG on the page.
You can go ahead and use all this information to write quality content that is sure to rank top of the search engines.
For educational purposes I am going to run the same tasks I have shown above on several top ranking sites for competitive high search volume keywords.
This way, you can understand from my research how to best analyse your website content to achieve a top ranking for any keyword.

How to Write Content with Perfect On-Page Website Optimization
Based on the research revealed here and many other websites I have analysed over the years you should do the following to achieve perfect on-page website optimization.
META DATA
Make sure your exact keyword is mentioned once in the META Title and Description TAG’s.
Also, get the keyword in the URL extension if it is not the homepage.
CONTENT BODY
Make sure the keyword appears at the top, in the middle and at the end of your content.
Try to ensure your keyword density is around 0.5%, although 0.2% will still do the job on longer posts.
Be sure to take a look at the top ranking sites, analyse the content as shown and go for a word cound and keyword density to match. That works, so do the same.
Make sure your keyword is in one H1 TAG only and one H2 TAG only.
Add the keyword to one image ALT TAG, try not to keyword stuff here.
That’s everything you need to know, any questions drop me a comment below.
Of course when the content is complete you need to start building some backlinks to get a top ranking.

I discovered your website by chance. Wished I had know about it much earlier, and followed your post. For some reasons, I have moved my content from website A to website B. Prior to the migration, I used GWMT to deindex all the pages, as well as deleted all pages from website A. I then gradually migrated the contents across to website B. My questions are:
1. Is this considered duplicate content, given that website A is no longer indexed?
2. Can I point the backlinks from website A to website B, but say maybe use different anchor text, and then throw in some new backlinks to mix things up?
3. Have you ever had such problems in the past or know of somebody with a similar problem? do you know what eventually happened to their website?
1. No, it’s not duplicate content if the other website has been removed from the index.
2. Yes, you can use the sites that you have set up for backlinks for your new website. It would be a good idea to do extras as you say.
3. Yes, I have handled migrations and had to deal with migrations from people that have come to me for help after losing all rankings after a migration. The juice needs to pass from the old site to the new one, in time the rankings always come back.
I found your site by accident :). Believe me, this is the best site I found so far. I wish if I found this site at least 10 months ago. All your articles are very descriptive. I’m a big fan of your articles now 🙂
Thank you so pleased I can help. If you need anything just let me know, it’s great to hear from visitors like this.
Sure, I will have more questions to ask from you since I’m still a beginner. I think your guides will be more helpful to me. I book marked this site to the top of the list of my SEO related sites.
🙂 if you have any questions just let me know.
Hi there. I have a question. This question is best fit on “Do You Have A Profitable Low Competition Keyword?” article. But since this is the newest article, I will ask my question here. As I know after reading your above mentioned article, we have to do the maths to see the profit that we can make by ranking a keyword. Are the things same when we try to rank keywords for adsense?
Let’s say I have a keyword with monthly search volume 22000 and CPC is $0.1. Is it worth putting efforts to rank that keyword?. SERP has results with DA below 20. Waiting for your reply.
Hi, I answered this on the “do you have a profitable low competition keyword?” post: https://rankersparadise.com/profitable-low-competition-keyword/ you can calculate adsense earnings but it’s tricky. You need to try and get a high search volume keyword, it comes from experience with adsense. However if you are new to it and have nothing to fall back on, you can do a trick I used to use when I first started out. Go to https://www.flippa.com/ and select sites being sold making money from adsense revenue https://www.flippa.com/search?filter%5Bproperty_type%5D=business%2Cwebsite&query%5Bkeyword%5D=adsense then click on a website that is being sold. You can view how much that website is making and discover their keywords by visiting the site and popping the domain url into spyfu.com then you can see their keyword stats on spyfu eg monthly keyword search volume, then you can get a picture of how much traffic you need to earn the same amount that the adsense site is making that is being sold for on Flippa. It’s also a great way to discover new ideas for starting new sites, it’s a way to find a profitable adsense niche with very little work. Any questions just let me know 🙂
What quality I like yours is, you answer the questions every time. That is great. Thanks for your detailed answer.
No problem, if you need anything else just let me know 🙂
Thank you Nick just what I was looking for, you seem to drop a post every time on something I need. I was just searching for how to do on-page seo without software and I thought I would come here and saw this just brilliant.
No problem at all, yes you can do on-page seo rather easily without any software using just a few keyboard shortcuts as shown in the post.
